WhatsApp Makes In-App Shopping Easier With Cart Feature

Adding a shopping cart makes it easier to purchase multiple items on WhatsApp.

WhatsApp has launched a feature that will make in-app shopping simpler and more efficient: the shopping cart. This simplifies the in-app shopping process, allowing you to quickly purchase multiple items from a single seller.

Shopping Cart on WhatsApp

WhatsApp improves the shopping experience for consumers and sellers on the app. The popular messaging app announced the debut of the shopping cart in a post on the WhatsApp Blog.Â

The shopping cart now allows you to browse the seller’s catalog, add multiple items to your cart, and then send the order in a single message. WhatsApp notes that this feature “will make it easier for businesses to track order inquiries, manage requests from customers, and close sales.”

Previously, WhatsApp application did not have a shopping cart. If you want to buy multiple items from one seller, you will need to send multiple messages to convey your purchase. The addition of a shopping cart consolidates this previously tedious process.

WhatsApp is slowly increasing the share of its app spending. It launched a product catalog in November 2019 and has since made in-app shopping even better.

The platform also announced in-chat shopping in October 2020, and launched a dedicated Shopping button in November. These new features may seem insignificant, but they turn WhatsApp into a social shopping app.

How to Use Shopping Cart on WhatsApp

To use the shopping cart feature, all you have to do is go to the business profile, and press the Shopping icon next to the seller’s name.

This will open the catalog. Once it loads, view the seller’s products and select the item you want to buy. From there, tap products, then press Add to Cart.

You can always edit your cart by going to View Cart, then tapping Add more to add more items to your cart. WhatsApp also gives you the option to change the number of items you want to buy as well.

If you are happy with the item you selected, you can simply send the entire cart as a message to the seller, and the seller can then process your order.

Social Shopping Continues to Grow

Facebook’s family of apps, including Instagram, WhatsApp and Facebook itself, continue to expand social shopping opportunities. Just like WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook both have a dedicated shopping section.

Like it or not, it looks like social networks are slowly evolving into online shopping malls that double as a way to stay in touch with friends.
