Jakarta, Gizmology – Thanks to the Xbox Cloud Gaming service, Fortnite players can now return to playing through their iOS devices. This was made possible thanks to the collaboration between Microsoft Corp. MSFT.O and Epic Games.
Considering that the battle royale genre game cannot be reached by iOS users, since Apple and Google removed it from the app store in 2020. Quoted from Reutersthis Microsoft collaboration allows users including PC gamers to stream “Fortnite” in an internet browser on their device.
The move is likely to help Microsoft attract casual gamers at a time when the software giant is stepping up efforts to make a splash in the video game market and take on rival Sony. “Fortnite” is the first free game to join the Xbox Cloud Gaming service.
“This is an important step towards adding Free-to-Play titles to the cloud gaming catalog as we continue our cloud journey,” Microsoft said in a blog post.
Since its release in 2020, more than 10 million people worldwide have streamed games via Xbox Cloud Gaming. This service is available in 26 markets, including the United States. Microsoft, as well as Epic Games and other companies, have criticized Apple’s store practice of requiring developers to pay commissions of up to 30 percent for in-store purchases.
How to Play Fortnite Game on iOS Device
First of all, players must add a shortcut to the home screen of their iPhone or iPad to Xbox Cloud Gaming. For that, open Safari and go to xbox.com/play.
Players will see a request from the site asking them to add Cloud Gaming to their home screen. Otherwise, players can still add them with a quick tap on the Share button followed by selecting Add to Home Screen from the list of options.
Also, players can change the name of the shortcut from Cloud Gaming if they want, but it’s not mandatory. Tap Add then return to the iPhone or iPad Home Screen and find the new icon.
Open Cloud Gaming, players will be redirected to a page that is exactly like the Xbox website that was just opened. Select Play Free under the Fortnite banner at the top of the screen. Next, tap Sign In, then sign in to the player’s Microsoft account.
Once logged in, tap Play on the Fortnite page. The Apple device will then start loading Fortnite, complete with touch controls that resemble the on-screen Xbox controller. To play Fortnite, you need a stable internet connection, as quoted from ZDNet, Sunday, May 8.
