How to Password Protect Files or Folders on Mac:

  • First of all, create and name the folder you want to lock.
  • Then you can open Launchpad > Other > Disk Utility .
  • You can also open it via Finder > Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility.app .
  • On the menu bar select File > New Image > Image from Folder .
  • Select the folder you want to lock (lock), then Choose .
  • The folder will change to a .dmg (Disk Image) file.
  • Now you set it like so:
  • Encryption : 128-bit AES encryption (create a password first)
  • Image Format : read/write
  • Then Save .
  • After that click Done .
  • Now, you can open the folder, which is already a .dmg file.

As you can see in the image above. Folder.dmg successfully protected with a password, when accessed.

Like a folder. When successfully opened, you can also add any files in it.
