Google Introduces Emergency SOS Feature on Wear OS

9, Jakarta – Google will soon launch the Emergency SOS feature on Wear OS. This feature will work similar to those found on Android smartphones. In addition, this feature will also allow users to easily contact their relatives or public authorities directly through their smartwatches in an emergency.

SOS on Android is not a new concept. Almost every smartphone has an equivalent option of such an option. What’s new, however, lies in the fact that this feature will now be available for Wear OS wearables as well.

On Android phones, users must press the power button 5 times in a row to be able to activate Emergency SOS. It’s not clear how the feature can be triggered on Wear OS, but at first glance it sounds similar to voice commands as an alternative method.

Emergency SOS for Wear OS will work similarly to the one for Android. The user must start by filling in the required contact details to be able to activate it. After that, the user can select the option to activate Emergency SOS. However, there is an important thing to note that this feature is ultimately a smartwatch feature.

Therefore, in order to be used, the wearable must be connected to a smartphone with cellular connectivity, if the wearable does not support LTE.

Moreover, the user will easily be able to cancel the call via the big red button on the main clock screen, and additional options will be provided after the call ends.

For now, there is no definite information when exactly this feature will be launched. However, Apple has previously implemented a similar option on the Apple Watch.

Based on Google’s track record, it can take some time for Emergency SOS to make its way to Wear OS. Even so, at least we know that it will come.
